Bed with mulch added after soil has been cultivated

Beds need to be planned. A good way to design the layout is to lay a supple garden hose on the ground in the shape you want your bed to take, then build your border along that shape, and killing existing vegetation in the bed area before anything else is done. A normal bed should be cultivated and mulch added over the soil for eye appeal, weed control, and moisture retention.
